Photos from a recent visit to Mare Island Naval Shipyard (MINS).
I've seen many images from The Nocturnes, inspired me to visit
this location to try and mimic their results.
MINS built and serviced ships and submarines from 1854 to 1995.
The historic core of the shipyard has some wonderful old buildings from
an industrial time long past.
The buildings are locked up and security guards monitor the area.
The security guards I spoke with were nice.
A few more photos here.

I love the combination of yellow and blues. Looks like you caught the perfect balance of lamplight and twilight.
BTW I have looked at your SF map quite a bit over the last year. I love the town and one day soon hope to catch such great nighttime urban photography like this!

Grimace and Schmoo,
Thanks for checking out my photos and your nice comments.
I was happy with the light balance between sky and artificial light.
The original raw image looked a little dark on the computer display
compared to the camera LCD display. I made adjustments in
ACR and PS levels.
I'll have to reference the camera histogram more than the LCD
next time.
This is really a special location, you feel the weight of history in the
buildings, cranes and dry docks.
For people in the area, there will be a free night photography workshop,
put on by The Nocturnes in association with the SF Bay Flyway Festival.
It's only the past few months that I've been inspired by the likes
of Tim Baskerville, Troy Paiva and Harold Davis, as well as seeing
workshop photos from SmugMug events and Smuggers like Andy,
Schmoo, teewhy, Ron Coscorrosa to mention a few.
Schmoo, I'm glad that my map is useful to you and others. It's been
fun visiting these places. I'm also amazed and inspired by your photos,
especially your Quiescence Gallery.
Thanks.

I would love to do something like that workshop. I think I have seen that site before, somewhere. Anyway I am moving to the SF area in a couple of months, so I do hope to catch some sights like that in 2009! Thanks for the link

Yeah, it did sound a little sappy after I read it again, but it's true, there are
so many great shooters here on dgrin, I'm always picking up ideas.
Thanks to all.
