What's the story behind the abondonment? why was it left?
Did you go inside by any chance?

It actually looks pretty good from the font in the first shot.

I couldn't find much info on the cold storage but the first two pictures is "Blashka Towers". It used to be called the Baxter office building. It is the tallest building in Harlingen since it was erected in 1927. It has 9 floors. Originally a hotel, it has been an office building and most recently a really run down apartment complex. Currently the building is not in use but I actually saw a man walk out of it with his dog. The building has gone through so many names that the spanish speaking people just call it the "el nueve pisos" meaning the nine floors. It boasted the city's first elevator and quickly became the premiere office for doctors, lawyers and other professionals. For years, KGBX, the principal radio station between San Antonio, Texas and Mexico City, broadcasted from a studio on the top floor. It is privately owned and the owner doesn't want to sell it--- from the looks of it it seems like he doesn't want to do anything to it. Its a really neat building its unfornuate it hasn't been renovated. I haven't gone inside- its pretty creepy looking and strange people come out of it. My husband didn't want to go in with me (chicken) and I wasn't about to go inside by myself. Perhaps I'll find someone "brave" enough to venture inside. My mom is actually pretty up for things like that haha so maybe soon you'll see inside pics.
    Thanks for looking!
