Lens Question for Nikon D60

I'm VERY new to photography, but very excited to learn.

I got a Nikon D60 for Christmas with an 18-55mm VR lens. I am confused because the images in the photos I take seem really small. Am I doing something wrong? :dunno Should I purchase a different lens to get closer shots? Told ya I was new to photography!:D

Shelmes, welcome to the Digital Grin. clap.gif

It would be helpful if you would post an image to show what you are describing.

If you are trying to photograph subjects/objects at a distance you may need a telephoto lens. Depending on the application telephoto lenses typically run 85mm to 200mm and many nature/wildlife applications use 400mm-500mm or more.

What is it you are trying to photograph? (Again, sample images would help.)

If they just look small on the viewscreen, push the button that looks like a magnifying glass with a '+' sign in it.

Like Ziggy says, your description can be interpreted in different ways...

Maybe the camera is set to take small jpg images?

Scout around in the menus to see if that might be the issue. go for LARGE ;)

I was going to say go for raw. but then again "new to photography" came up again. raw might not be the best thing to suggest hehe.
