How to find concert/tour photography?

Here's a general request for info and many thanks if you can help steer me. I have a very close friend who toured with Smashing Pumpkins in about 1998/99 on the "Adore" tour. His untimely passing a year ago left us with the realization that we have ZERO pictures from that tour, a proud time in his career. How can one go about finding concert stills for a specific band? I have no idea how to go about this at all. There is no relationship with the band so I would rule out phoning their management—for now.

Thanks for your help.

I would begin with a Google search. I.e. 'Smashing Pumpkins 1998 adore tour' has quite a few results. You can refine that search as you get closer to what you are looking for.

My suggestion: Smashing Pumpkins are at no loss for fan clubs, both official and unofficial. MySpace would be loaded with them. Maybe peak into some of those fan galleries, and you may find something there. Was your friend a band mate, a roadie, an opening act...?

Promotors are fairly reachable. Far more reachable than say, Biily Corgan. :D

It's possibly going to take quite a bit of time and research, but sounds like it will be worth it.

    Good Luck.

He was one of two touring percussionists with the band, so more or less a band mate. Dan Morris is his name. I'm hoping to find a sympathetic soul attached to that tour. I might look into my contacts at Virgin as well.

Yeah, the idea is to get REAL photos, not fan photos or 344x157 MySpace shots. There are a few things on YouTube which are great, but a picture is worth a thousand words. Will try promoters next. Thank you.
