I think you have a male House Finch, Dan. They usually hang out at Starbucks.

I like how the branches frame him in the photo. Nice one!

Hi Dan, nice shot. I have a lot of these out my front window and I checked my little bird book. I think it is a male House Sparrow in fall/winter plumage. Their colors become a little diluted in the winter. HTH.

    Yes a house sparrow
Definitely a house sparrow. They are not a favorite amongst birders because they take over the feeders and houses. Cute to photograh though as I often do.

I figured as much but wasn't sure as I had not seen one with this color pattern. Thanks.

Hey Dan the others are correct. It is a male house sparrow. Glenn is usually spot on correct with his IDs though. I guess his computer programming has killed one too many brain cells. Take a break Glenn and get that game out. Will it be out for the PS3? rolleyes1.gifD

Ever notice how socially challenged they are? They can be quite nasty.

Like my Mom used to say to me..."if only you acted as nice as you look!" (Moms always think their sons are good looking)

So far they aren't that big of a problem for me. I have tons in my yard, but the other birds hold their own and so far they have not disrupted my bluebird boxes. I think they are spunky birds and in breeding season the males are quite handsome.
