Or not, as the case might be (what other forum would these be able to go into - they're not "wildlife" and I'm not sure if they count as "cool shots"... :scratch)

These were today's experiment with my new-to-me Tamron 17-50 (yes, I found one for a fantastic price that was too good to bypass, so I got it - 2 months old, all paperwork and cards etc etc - woohoo!)

I like the light, the boken, and the subject. Not so happy with my focus/depth of field (first shots - literally - with said new lens, thus didn't quite have the measure on its focus point idiosyncracies and sweet spots)

However, gotta start somewhere! Worth pursuing, or too banal to bother?

Pets go in OCS - and cats have their own thread in The Big Picture.

I think #2 is worth sharing in the very least thumb.gif

I love #2. I think with stripping away the color, you are more drawn into the cats features. And may I add...what a dignified kitty:D

Hee heee.... The cat is actually my aunt's - we stopped on our way to an open house to pick up the lens via a Craigslist exchange, and when we got there I had to bring the bag in me - when the cat started posing in the sunlight i just HAD to get the camera out!

There would've been some other beauties, except I had the lens a little too open and the dof was just unusable when I didn't get it to use the right AF point (like I say, these were LITERALLY the first shots with the lens so I havent' figured out how to "work it" yet - I'll get there....)

    Thanks!

I can see you are going to have FUN with your new lens. Your second shot definitely captured some character. Thanks for sharing.

KITTY! :D ...uh, sorry, what were you saying? mwink.gif

Love #2. I'd try to sharpen up the eyes a bit more in post to really pull the viewers in, but it's a lovely shot regardless. thumb.gif

I also really like #2. I love that you can see his front paws and he is just looking like "what, me? yes, i am beautiful"

For the contest rules, I think you can put the image in either Cool Shots or go straight to Whipping Post. Of course, you can also ask for critique/help with the post processing and put it in the finishing forum.
