Snapping completed
Well, I as subject had a great time today. It's not often I get on the front end of a camera and I get to practice my best imitation of what I say to people about bending here and there.
What is most interesting to me in the exercise is giving the artistic control to someone else - who did a GREAT job (now I can't wait to see the results - just like my clients!)

Hmm, something/somebody looks familiar
Nice shot, David!
Care to share the technicalities? Did you have to haul all the lights from the studio into the office, or..?

No lights, just what was there. I've just embedded the EXIF in the photo (click on it.)

Excellent portrait David. Congrats being the first to post in this exercise. Would you care to explain a little about how / why you decided on this setting?

I wanted something that reflected Kathy. I asked her about what she loves, and it was her dogs or her photography, apparently. Since she was also helping me with some bookkeeping that day, the dogs were out, so we did a workplace portrait. I was also thinking about one in her other workplace, with all of her tax season paperwork strewn all over tarnation, but she wasn't too keen on that one. She's got a really nice space set up for her photography, and this front office seemed like the place to do it. If I were to do it again with more time, then I might set her up in her studio with lights, and show her in her element there (have the lighting be a part of the picture), but we were short on time and didn't have enough to really mess with the lights. It would have been educational for me, since I've never done any studio shooting. Maybe next time!
Thanks, Dave!
Thanks Dave. You did a great job. There are several that I really like in the images. And that I have gallery wraps of my dogs was almost as good. Too busy this time of year to bring them to work - although they do get to come from time to time. And my tax papers mess is our secret. You can come play with my lights any time. I'd be glad to share some studio knowledge with you too.
Nik, I have lots of spotlights and window light in the studio office. I've used it before as a setting for some shots but it is being set up for a sales gallery too. The studio has evolved since you came to visit last before you set up your home studio. Since you are next and my subject, we will just have to play in the back of the studio. I have some really fun ideas for our shoot.
Hi all,
Yes I'm in Charlotte NC... My problem was/is with my current shooting schedule. My sweet willing subject has been way more patient than I would be... So just working on meeting him but trying to not miss this fun challenge... so thank you for the information.... (currently working on a meeting location and shoot date).

I wish I could, but I can barely organize what I'm eating for lunch. :-( We have a bunch of great photogs in the NY,NJ,CT,PA area. I wish they saw this thread. (And someone would step up to organize it. LoL.)
David R, my mentor, that's a great photograph. She looks relaxed and happy. And to have this done with ambient light, is a big deal. You know what's funny about that picture, it reminded me of what my best friend told me after seeing his son's birthday pictures. "Jesus Christ, Your camera takes great pictures." It's not the camera, I said!!!
meet boolsacho
Another pair of SoCal shooters that Angelo assigned got together to do some portraits this weekend. I was assigned to boolsacho as a subject, but he was kind enough to let me take a few to practice my technique. Boolsacho joined dgrin back in Dec, I believe, but I don't think he's posted much yet. He's a little nervous putting his shots up against "all the professionals" that frequent dgrin.
We wanted an outdoor shoot, so we had to wait for the weather (and my son's soccer schedule) to cooperate. We met near the historic section of San Juan Capistrano and then moved over to the mission. It was a very warm, sunny day and we both enjoyed the shoot. Thanks Angelo for organizing this.
Here's a shot of boolsacho to introduce every one and when I'm done processing some shots, I'll start a thread in the people section for c&c. edit - thread started here
So, without further ado, please welcome boolsacho:
I'll add a link to my thread in the people section when I get it posted. Of course, C&C welcome.
Thanks, Colleen! I was very nervous that day since it was my first shooting with someone I haven't met in person. Thanks to you though, I was less nervous though I lost my umbrella :cry
Overall though, it was fantastic experience! Learned much about composing for portraits!
Posting one picture I have just processed. Please forgive my noobness CC is needed
Well, who else from the NJ, NY, PA and DE is intere4sted? I'll take a shot at organizing folks ; tho' I'm warning ya'll, I'm not the most organized person out there. Just pm me with you info, where you is and how far you'd be willing to go.

BUT
I really, really, really, need at least two more participants. One from the Atlanta-west-to-Alabama-east area, and one from (south) Eastern Virginia.
Pretty please?

Erin is from Charlotte and has already been assigned. Unfortunately, they're the only pair from the SouthEast I've been able to match up so far. :cry
I wish we could get more folks interested.
