Back behind the camera

Hi Everyone,

With the summer heat and lack of critters to photograph I let the camera gear gather some dust this summer and fall. Lots of Mtn. Bike riding and other activities kept me busy but the "Call of the Critters" was to strong to stay away any longer. So now that the critters have started to gather and pair up I thought it would be a good time to get back behind the camera and post some shots as well as catch up on all the great shots that have been posted here on D-Grin.

I have a few shots that have been gathering dust that I will post. Although you know how much I like the Raptors I have also been honing my skills at capturing the little birds in flight using my long lenses.. a real challenge to say the least.

Here are a few shots.. Hope you enjoy them.

#1.. This is a rare find for me, I've never seen a Green Heron around here and then he was gone.

#2.. Not many hawks this year (nothing like last year). The lakes are full so a lot of their hunting grounds are under water.

#4..

#5.. I love these guys.. I could photograph them all day long. Cute but deadly hunters.

#6.. Here are a couple of the best shots I have even taken of a Kingfisher.
king_1.jpg

#7.. Not many around these parts. They cruise the lake but usually stay way away from the shore, I just got lucky this time.

#8.. Still working on the small birds in flight. They don't give you much room for error
at the end of a 500mm lens.

#9.. Another.

#10.. A Killdeer cruising the shore line.

I have a few other shots I'll post to catch up.. Hope to keep them coming over our winter season.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Hi Ben, Thanks for you comments. Little BIF's at the end of big glass is a real challenge, but fun.

Hi Harry, Thanks for the comments. Summer here (ducks, ducks and more ducks) just got to me.

I was at the lake the other day and watched 7 eagles hunt in a group. One big female (figured it was a female from the size) stayed in one spot all morning and watch 3 juvie, 2 adults and 1 immature work the woods for ducks. The lake was frozen over (and still full) so none of them came anywhere near my lens reach. Finally they all gathered near the big female for about 20 mintues and then flew off to other parts. I've never seen anything like it in our area, fun to watch.
