Trying my hand at some sports photography

Here's one from a JV hockey game that I went to. As you can imagine, lighting and motion are constantly changing...unlike the temperature...it was frick'n cold...even old-timers said that this particular rink was wicked cold. This was the first time with my 5D to shoot in the Dial Control mode which allows to control F/Stop in manual mode. I'll post some more when I get them processed. C&C welcome.

Nicely done for your first try. And a beanie, gloves and scarf is usually in my backpack whenever I shoot hockey because rinks are really, really cold!

Some suggestions for the image --
Try upping the exposure about 1/3 stop and play around a little bit of curves.

Can I do a 20 second adjust and re-post the image?

Great Shot for your first try.
The only thing I don't like is the bright spot in the upper right corner.

20s second edit... exposure bumped, slight temp adjust, and some curves.

Note -- for static photos like this, it's my preference to wait for a better moment like when the goalie is facing you and with the goalie, it happens quite often. I just think it would be a better composition, but that's just me.

For this photo, I would also crop a bit of the top because that light (????) is distracting.

Over all, well done on your first hockey photo!

Here's a shot at second time processing tweaking the curves a bit and I've also cloned out the skylight reflection on the glass.
