These images are from Fennessey Ranch again near Refugio, Texas. It was very cloudy and foggy this day so I had to use flash in all images. I was in a portable blind deep in the ranch at an old water well dating back to the 20s.

    Very cool, Stephen. thumb.gif

The stark difference between the bright bird an muted background really makes for a very pleasing look.

Well Texas is big and this ranch is about 5 hours from me as the crow flies so it's in my state but not necessarily in my parts. :D

Here is one more I just finished processing from the same day.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Great job Stephen. Looks like we need to plan a "field trip" to Texas! Especially liked the second one! clap.gif

The last one you posted is the best of the lot. It's nice and clear all the way through; what a beauty of a bird!!!

Great shots of a beautiful subject, Stephen. thumb.gif

The first one looked like it had a shallow DOF, so I peeked at your EXIF. Holy cow, you were basically shooting in the dark there. eek7.gif

Thanks Harry. While they are not exactly the images I was looking for, given the conditions, they came out better than expected.

It was very dark when I took these pics during the early morning. I was hoping they would turn out. While I was taking the pictures I had lots of trouble finding the right combination of shutter speed/f-stop/flash settings. In fact, the first one was taken nearer to noon and without flash. One of the few.

I liked that one too. My only regret is that I could not get the whole tail in the frame.

Thanks Bob....Any time you are in the area, let me know. I'm heading back down to the coast in a few weeks to stalk some whooping cranes. In the meantime, here is another recently processed green jay. No flash/low light/f4.5@500mm/cropped at 40%
