I came on a fairly large group of birds feeding close to the road on our last day at Ding Darling and was able to get some decent action shots. Great place!

We were there parts of three days and made 6 swings around the loop. Great stuff each time.

Number 2 is very nice. I like the wing position on that snowy. The ibis is nice with wonderful wing positioning too. I just wish I could see the face.

    thumb.gif Hello again
I have time to be more responsive. I've been to DD many times and feel that it's my favorite NWR. The fact that you can drive thru and photograph and supposedly have little impact on the wildlife is fantastic. My favorite times are first in AM and towards closing (That's where I see most of the mammals). The only problem with DD is staying there. Even camping is very expensive. I've usually stayed off the island and paid the toll to get in. My other favorite is Viera Wetlands. Much smaller and a different variety of critters. Good luck, bsvirginianthumb.gif

We also stayed in Ft. Myers and drove to Sanibel the days we were there. At one point, coming off the island, my GPS said that it would take 357 hours to travel the 15 miles back to the hotel at the rate we were going. I turned it off then.

I like Merritt Island NWR in FL, but my absolute favorite is Bosque del Apache in NM.
