The red-tail was here yet again the other morning and in some wonderful light. It parked in a place where I could get a good angle on it as it was "sitting on a tree branch, eyeing little squirrels with bad intent". (Yes, that ws my daily caption, but that is exactly what it was doing as a pine squirrel went tearing around the backyards. :D )

I'd like some C&C on it, please. The only post-processing done was to clone out a branch coming straight up behind the hawk's head and sharpening pre- and post-cropping.

A very nice shot, excellent detail.. and from the looks of his stare you sure didn't bother his concentration.

Very nice indeed. Sharp and well balanced. Good DOF also.

Great capture. Nice sharp image with plenty of detail and I agree the DOF is top notch. Good job on the post processing as well.

I agree with the others...great DOF. The whole bird is sharp. Nice head position, clear, unobstructed image. About the only thing I can say to make this a bit better IMHO is to try to be more level with the hawk or any bird for that matter. It literally looks like you were almost right under it.

It was approximately 45 degrees from my position on the ground and the hawk in the maple tree. While I agree with you 100% on "look 'em in the eye" shooting, in this case, I'd have needed to climb on top of the shed. So it's a case of taking what one can get. Though one day I am going to nail this hawk or one of the Coops when they are briefly perching on the fence! (I did get the young Coop there last summer.)

Thanks to all for your input!

I concur. I would have not passed on this shot at all. It's a great image.
