Is this tree male, what do you think?

These tree grows in the tropical north of Australia, there are several growing in the Bicentennial Conservatory which is situated in Adelaide's Botanic gardens. I believe their appendages are aerial roots, I didn't notice them till a woman pointed them out to her husband and said and I quote " They do grow on Trees ". :huh
