Egrets and Cormorants

While the San Antonio River is drained for its annual cleanup, the birds had to go somewhere! I have a favorite stretch of the river on the south side, and sure enough, that's where I found them this week! I stopped for just a few shots of egrets, cormorants and mallards. No great captures, but I thought I would share anyway--normally, when i visit this site, I see a couple mallards, perhaps an egret or two, and occasionally a cormorant. This time, the place was full!

Not posting for C&C, but it is always welcome!

Lauren

Well I am going to buck the trend and say that 1 and 2 are best. I think if you have the pixels, one could be cropped to only show the solitary great egret in flight. The sunlight passing through the wings is nice. The second one the house in the background is what is distracting to me. In number 3 if you could crop to isolate one or two of the cormorants, that would be nicer, but if not leave it as is.

Thanks, Stephen. I tried to isolate the egret, but not enough pixels to do it justice. I did crop the cormorants. What do you think?

Hi.. Lots of Egrets and Cormorants in your area. I like #2 also. The dozens and dozens of Cormorants that nest in our area haven't shown up yet but they will soon. It's amazing, one giant Cottonwood tree they nest in has so many nest and babies every year the tree is actually white from top to bottom (poop) by the time the young leave the nest. I'm surprised the tree lives it is so covered. It looks like someone whitewashed it with a 1000 gallons of white goo..rolleyes1.gif (and I'm talking HUGE cottonwood).

Good story, Prescott--maybe you should get a shot of it and post it. I guess where you and I live, that's the closest we come to a "white Christmas." rolleyes1.gif
