Avatar Woes

Hello All,

I have read the tutorial and tried both with a link and from our computer but cannot get my photo to appear as an avatar. The photo I want will not work for me. In order to shrink it to the size warranted for an avatar, it would be about the size of a pin head. I'm sure this is operator error :rolleyes but can someone help me? Thank you so much!!!!
