So amazing! MP-E 65? Extremely jealous of your work. What is the background on #2?
Thanks
Yes all MPE-65 shots. The first 3 shots had a magazine page stuck to the underside of the car screen. #2 is a 21 shot focus stack taken at an acute angle at high mag (4:1) - this caused a lot of colour refraction in the ice.

Magazine stuck to the underside of the car screen? What? How did...what...huh? That color is phenomenal and looks metallic.
You need to lead a seminar with hands on learning. I just can't wrap my head around how you do what you do with what you do it with. I would need to be there and watch. That is so cool. I'm hoping to get some better results with my 100mm macro vs the 60mm I have now, my 100 should be here early next week so we'll see. Anyways, a video tutorial would be awesome showing your subject as the eye see's it and showing your process of taking the picture. I love macro photography, but have got out of it recently, I'm hoping to get back into it. Especially after seeing things such as these for motivation.

Thanks for the comments CA and Lauren - much appreciated.
CA - We've had more than our normal share of fairly hard frosts this year so it just gave me the opportunity to try a few things. I'd found before that getting good light on car windscreen frost shots can be difficult so started trying putting coloured materials on the other side to help light the shot and provide some colour. I now quite frequently try to place coloured objects behind subjects to provide some direct or indirect colour. Think it's a result of all the dewdrop shots I do.
Brian, these are very awesome. If I may ask, how do you achieve the very bright background in #2. Was that an object in the background you happened to be able to line up, or is it a backdrop or object of some sort that you placed there for the effect?
I ask because I am considering getting my wife to dye some fabric backgrounds for me for use in macros to add more pleasing backgrounds and was curious of people do this.

Thanks for the kind comments Cindy and Christian.
Christian - the fist 3 shots are all shots of frost on the car windscreen . I stuck a coloured cereal box front to the inside of the screen to reflect some colour. #2 was shot at a very acute angle to the screen (it's an extensive focus stack) and the ice seemed to refract colour from all over the place.

These are so pretty Brian, I love the fern/feather likeness of the first three shots, but the bulkier sculptures are my favourites

:skippy Everyone has the right to be stupid, but some people just abuse the privilege :dgrin
I was using a colourful magazine page on the other side of the car screen to provide some colour in the first 3 shots.

Well it might have been a cereal box front- just something colourful but not metallic.

Thanks - never watched it grow as a kid, but I remember we used to get frost patterns on the inside of the bedroom windows
