golden light

A few days ago I took my dog for a romp on a little North Shore beach here on Long Island. It was the last hour before sunset and the light was incredible, the whole world seemed drenched in gold and blue. I've seen this kind of light on winter evenings only, something special about the angle of the sun's rays I guess. But it makes my heart beat just a bit faster every time I encounter it.

1.) This is the first photo I took that afternoon. You can see that the shadows are already quite deep and I thought this washed up orange makes for a good introduction here :D:

2). The light on the beach and sky made even these simple benches appear magical and beautiful:

3). Here's a shot taken from behind the dunes. The tree and the grass just seem to be glowing. Doesn't even look like Long Island to me:

4). Golden Rock under big tender skies:

5). Fishing boat returning home before dark:

6). The sun has almost set but the sky still looks incredible. The birds just added to the slight spookiness of this shot:

70). The day has come to an end and I had to take a final shot of the now much more muted world settling in for the night:

Thanks for looking, C & C are always welcome. Greetings,

Gorgeous collection but most of all I loved hearing your description of the moment. That in and of itself makes me wish it was sunset right now! thumb.gif

The rock photograph is great -- a wonderfully simple composition with great light, and a nice sky in addition. thumb.gif

Nice series, and excellent descriptions. You have a way with your eye and with words. I especially like #3--it looks almost like a painting in a museum!

I really like #2. The lighting and the minimalist subject matter make it work for me. Very cool. thumb.gif

Wow, thanks again you guys, I just noticed the additional comments now.

Yes, #2 is one of my favorites as well. It looks really intriguing as a stand-alone, thrown in with the others here it might look a little muted though. But after all I have mother nature to thank for all of these shots - sometimes it really hits you what a beautiful world this can be clap.gif!

Numbers one, two and three are wonderful. Numbers two and three are great. Number three is fantastic: It's my favorite of the series.

Great narration with each image. It really added to the scenes I was witnessing.

Beautiful work on all levels, saltydog. thumb.gif
