Right now I am sitting at my desk and the LCD of my 20D says

Firmware update program
updating now
94% done

Warning: DO NOT turn off Power switch or touch any buttons

Now my problem is it has been at 94% for over 15 minutes....can I turn it off and start the procedure over or am I going to totally screw it up???

I took a big chance and just turned it off removed the battery to get the LCD to turn off (it didn't when I turned power off). Then I put the battery back in and turned the power back on it asked me to upgrade and I hit set and it went all the way to 100% and completed WHEW!

    Thanks!

Many users have come across the same thing. A freeze at 94% completion. Everyone has sweated it but in the end, after removing the battery, everything is fine.

It would be interesting to see if you have higher noise after downloading the firmware as on other forums, several folk have complained of this.

I think Winger's now possessed and dead 20D did this too. Why do I get the feeling Canon made some major errors on a whole big run of this camera? I'm very scared to pick up a used one at some point down the road...

Well, I had an excellent session yesterday, so I hope it doesn't come down with anything later.
