Advice on Bags... HELP!

I'm in camera bag hell. I have a D700 with Nikkor 24-70 and 70-200 glass. Also have a 2X converter and an SB900, and various small items like chargers, filters etc.

I have a Pelican case that everything fits in, but would like a bag that I could carry the entire kit, preferably with either lens installed, and have room for the other gear.

I thought the Tamrac Pro 12 was the answer - compact, lots of storage - but upon closer inspection, it looks cramped for the large-bodied D700 with the 70-200 and converter installed, and even if it fit, there dpesn't appear to be enough space to put the 24-70.

Is there a bag out there that would work for this combo??

Cheers

I use the Lowepro Vertex 200. Great for loads of big gear.

You might want to check out the ThinkTank Speedracer bag. I have this, and it holds an amazing amount of gear for it's size. It will hold my Canon 5DMkll with battery grip with a lens attached, even 70-200. 17-40, (2) 580EX, Sekonic 358, 10 CF cards (comes with case), CP filter, batteries. It will hold more, that's just what's in there right now, while I'm looking in it.

You might also check out their UrbanDisguise line. I have the UrbanDisguise 60. It holds a lot, and also my 17" laptop.

ThinkTank bags are second to none IMHO. Design thoughtfulness is fantastic & the quality of the bags can't be beat.

I've got a Kata DR-467 that will hold my D700/MB-D10, Nikkor 24-70mm f2.8, and Nikkor 17-35mm f2.8 in the bottom padded section, and the 70-200mm f2.8 up top in with the lens in its padded case. If I remove some of the padding I can get the D700/MB-D10 with the 24-70mm mounted in the bottom, and still fit the 17-35 also but its a bit tight.

I've been thinking about an UD 50 or 60. Any idea if the side pocket will hold the D700 with the MB-D10 mounted?

I'm not a Nikonian, so I don't own a D700, but the front pockets, protected with the main flap, will easily hold my 5D/5DMkll with battery grips. Their website info states that these two front pockets will hold a PRO body, like the 1Dx & D3. I believe them.

I also ordered the shoulder harness. This quickly allows you to carry the bag like a backpack. Too cool...

    Brad:

Have you looked at the site:

    http://www.cambags.com/

You can specify the equipment you use, then look at all bags with your items inside. I find it really cool to get ideas before you go looking for that magicbag.

That's a great site, thanks. Looks like the Vertex 200 is exactly what I need for a bunch of reasons, so I think I'll snag one tomorrow.

I've been through the CompuRover, the Slingshot 200, a TopLoader ZAW, and now the Peli case. I think with the TLZ-AW, the vertex and the Peli, I should be covered.

Thanks for all the tips wave.gif
