photoshop frustrates me

so Im trying to do a collage.. have the cutouts in 3 different layers and then I add a new lew layer and all I want to do is add a fill color.. but it wont let me, doesnt say anything , just doesnt do it... any reason why? anyone? this stuff always seems to happen to me when I'm trying to create stuff... argh!!:dunno

    Are the first 3 layers transparent in the non-picture areas? Have you tried turning off the the first 3 layers to confirm what's happening in your new layer. I'm no expert either, but I've made enough mistakes that I can remember some of them.....rolleyes1.gif

    What version of Photoshop do you have? Can you send a couple of screen shots of the layers? Please describe the exact key stokes you tried using. This shouldn't be a problem.

    Try adding an adjustment layer, using the fill option, rather than new layer, and then filling with the bucket.
