My very first bif! With the D70 + 70-300! That I'll post here for now!
Congrats and welcome to the BIF club. Now next time we want to see all of both wings in the shot and a BBIF (Bird Butt in Flight) shot would be nice too.

Just picture one lone dude, in the middle of a field next to a large apartment building, spinning in a tight circle, cursing "Focus! Focus! Focus!..." as a seagull circles above and you'd have a good picture of just how much of an idiot I must have looked like...
First off, it's a really nice shot Second, quit beatin' yourself up about cutting off a wing It's a well known fact that ALL BIFers have at one time (and some of us do it much of the time....lol) cut off various and sundry bird parts (white meat or a leg?? :lol)
You stopped his motion and he's sharp as a tack Not to mention the nice background you shot him against
Keep it up The more BIF's you shoot, the easier they become : One of these days soon, I'm sure we'll see that rare bird butt in flight (BBIF) shot from you.....

Very nice , even with only one wing. I'm not sure getting both wings would have helped this image for me either.
I think the color of the background contrasts nicely with the white of the bird.

It is a pleasing shot. The contrast with the background is sweet!
anyway... i think this composition only adds to the interest of the image. good job.
