Was on the drop blind in the kitchen, and on a blue tupperware lid.
Not perfect, a bit soft, but I had 2 bikes across the doorway so I struggled to get a good position.
It tried to scarper so I intercepted it with my finger tip, and the bugger went on to its back, and played dead.
I put it back on the blind afterwards
No spider was harmed in the making of this picturementary.

The second one down is great. Very menacing, to me, at least. Had I witnessed a spider playing dead, I would have made sure he stayed that way.

Brian, I still don't seem to have the clarity you have. Maybe its the lighting...
One day, if I ever ever get to the south coast (not much chance, the country will have a King by then) if someone knocks on your door, it'll be me asking for lessons!

You'd be welcome
One difference could be my extensive use of fairly open apertures and focus stacking to get the DOF back - this is to avoid diffraction softening. I tend not to use smaller than F11 at 1:1 and progressivley open the aperture as the magnification goes up.

Absolutely not!
He/she was really quite docile. I guess spidrws sleep a lot over winter and maybe this one hadn't been awake long
