Domain transfer questions

Hi Folks-

I've been a happy SmugMug Pro customer for years, and an unhappy customer with my current registrar and hosting service...so much so that I'm ready to switch to smugmugdomains.com.

I could use some help with the following before proceeding...

If I already have a godaddy account (no, this isn't the registrar that's driving me crazy), do I need to register a new account with smugmugdomains.com?

OK, dumb question alert...do I need to host the domain name, or can I just park it? Reason for asking is that all I use is the smugmug engine with my domain, and nothing else with the exception of e-mail.

Ugh, I find that dabbling in domain stuff only once every 2-3 years leaves me stale on technical side. I appreciate any insight anyone can provide.

Recap:

points to http://kurtkuhn.smugmug.com via CNAME; account registered / hosted elsewhere

forwards to kurtkuhn.net; account used only for e-mails; account registered / hosted elsewhere

parked on godaddy and is not currently used; transfer from my old registrar was made painful and slow by my old registrar :cry

Thanks for any insight you can provide!

    Hi Kurt,

You are welcome to use smugmugdomains or GoDaddy. Either way, you are going to get the same great GoDaddy service. If you have an existing GoDaddy account, why not keep things simple and transfer the domains to the same account? That is what I would do.

If you have the domains already, I would put them to use instead of parking them. Just keep in mind that there is no to pay for the web hosting or the other extras unless you need them for other purposes. You only need the domain and email if you want it.

Once you transfer the domain, I have instructions on setting up GoDaddy for the primary domain: http://wiki.smugmug.net/display/SmugMug/GoDaddy+CNAME+Setup

And for the other 2: http://wiki.smugmug.net/display/SmugMug/Multiple+Domains

If you need help, please let me know.
