Hi Everyone,

I just finished my website for my new photography business that I do in my spare time. This is also my first ever website too. So with, the knowledge that it is my first site (don't know anything about CSS or HTML) and I'm a University student, could you possible check it out and let me know what you think?

You can check it out at:

www.kyledphoto.com

Also, I don't have that many photos up yet. I've spent most of the past couple of days setting up the site.

Thanks a bunch!
Kyle D.

    My first advice:
Take your watermark off of the images in your slideshow - or move them from dead center.

Thanks for that advice and the watermarks are gone from the slideshow.

    Kyle,

I can't access any galleries, or about me. When I click on services the bottom block of copyright info jumps up and covers the tabs for service, and about me.

Also in the service page everything disappears when I mouse over.

The only thing I can get to is your print price page.

It works fine for me and looks good. My suggestion is to remove any empty galleries till you have something to fill them up.

Hi , It displays fine in my firefox browser, however, the bottom of the slideshow images are clipped off.
if you put your home, clients, galleries etc bar along the side of the slideshow insteat on top of it it would alllow the whole of the slideshow images to be seen.
Just one thisg of course , this may be particular to how my particular diaplay if formatted, but if more people report it not may be worth considering. Good luck with your site.

Also, I use Firefox 3 myself but I tried looking at it in IE7 and everything worked except that my slideshow on the main page wouldn't show up. Anyone else having that problem?

    Thanks for all the help.

I like the overall look of the site. Few things that you could consider:

    I am on a XP, Firefox 3, 1400x900 widescreen.

The slideshow on homepage is nice, but I have to scroll down to see the whole. The mix of portrait and horizontal shots is probably why. One way to tackle this problem, on my site, I had selected more horizontal shots. For the ones that were vertical, I just decided to crop into the most interesting part. They can always check out the gallery to see the actual image.

The line-height could be adjusted on your writing. Perhaps something like: 1.4em or 1.5em. That will help the About and Services pages be more readable.

Also, change the margins on the text so that they are more "inwards" from the borders.

I am redesigning my site as well currently and am learning a lot about design basics.

I am not a fan of the site changing sizes...for example going from fixed width to wide: try going from Services to the Equine gallery. You may not have much choice there since that is smugmug..but, others may have better suggestions

    Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for that, I'll take a look and see what I can fix from that. The slideshow thing has been bothering me a bit. I'm not sure how to fix it.

As for the services and about me page, I'm going to have to admit something. I have absolutely no idea how to do anything with html. I created those using the what you see is what you get part of Frontpage 2003. So, I'll have to check it out tomorrow and play around with it a little more to see what I can come up with.

I'll also see what I can find out about making it a uniform size across the entire site.

When did you register that domain? Just wondering cause it is so short. It seems that all domains these days that are available to buy are really long. clap.gif

I registered it in May of 2008 when I signed up with SmugMug and joined dgrin. I initially signed up as a power user and registered the domain and then did some very basic customizations to the site. It wasn't until recently when I started considering upgrading to a pro account so I can sell some photos that I really started working on and then "finished" my site.

    Kyle,

When first I tried to view this from AOL it looks terrible, but in FireFox looks great.

By the way I like how you have the text box and text in your service page.

    How is this done?

I used Microsoft's Front Page 2003 that came with my version of Office 2003. It has a "what you see is what you get" html editor. You can create a site like a word document or a power point slide but then copy the html code that will give you the same results and past it into the gallery description. It's really easy and saves me from learning html.

I fixed the slideshow so that you shouldn't have to scroll at all to see the images.

I've also played with the the tabs, text size, and colours on my about me and services page.

Let me know what you think.

I'm also waiting on a little help over in the customization forum to help make the borders and text stretchy for the about me and services page.

I could also use some help with rewriting my about me page. I'm not sure what it should say or how to make it sound more professional and show me in a better light.

Thanks, I'm really happy with the way it sits right now. All I have left to do is start filling up my portfolio with images and then it is done (well, it'll never be done, but you know what I mean!).

Also, thanks for all the help!
