First time printing something this large, first time on canvas, first time considering the Bay Photo color correction option. Looking for some advice, if some of you have experience with this.

The print will be 12x36 inches at 300 dpi (thanks for the inspiration Baldy and co.!). I want to print on the Canvas Gallery Wrap option which looks awesome on the website and also in person. I'm considering the same thing with a Giclée process, but not sure what the difference is in appearance?

Also, I'm used to slightly over-sharpening for print, does this hold true for a canvas or Giclée print? Should I be concerned about adjusting saturation or anything else in particular? Last thing is the Bay Photo color correction option. They say it's done by hand and I get the feeling it's more than just bumping the saturation or something simple ... is this aimed for the people who are unsure about their color management settings? Or is it aimed to correct slight differences when printing on different mediums like canvas or Giclée? Makes sense to call them and ask, I know, but looking for some feedback from anyone who has used the feature. I'm just not familiar with making these kinds of prints, maybe there is nothing to worry about afterall.

Hey Justin, I printed that same scene on 30x10 metallic mounted to foamcore @ Bay Photo, wow it's gorgeous, really. You should try it on metallic, then fused to the canvas deal.gif Bay does a GORGEOUS job, really :jfriend

I think you need to bring up the exposure some, and print it non-color corrected.

Hey Andy, just the guy I was looking for! I bumped the exposure a bit and spent a good while playing with sharpening. Funny how something so simple like a photograph can become an obsession.

After thoroughly confusing BayPhoto, prints are on the way. I went for a few 12x36" canvas gallery wraps, and an extra one with metallic finish. Sooo excited, I can't wait to see them!

    A-MA-ZING

Prints arrived. I knew these would be awesome but had no idea they would be THIS great. I really surprised myself on this one, and expectations were really high to begin with. The sad thing is, I now have a craving to go BIGGER rolleyes1.gif

To finish the original post's thoughts, I did my typical slightly-over-sharpen for printing and bumped the exposure a little. There was some work to get the framing just right as the gallery wraps take a bit off each edge for the wrap, but everything turned out just great. Highly, HIGHLY recommend Bay Photo, they are super nice and fun to work with on the phone.

This is an older post, but having a hard time deciding who to use for canvas prints. I have not printed anything yet using Bay Photo. Everyone here speaks very highly of them as far as quality. I'm going to print some large canvas prints as samples for clients to see. With just starting out, having this done is quite pricey. I've heard from some here and elsewhere that SimplyCanvas does a very nice job and much cheaper. What are your thouhgts? Especially for those who have had canvas prints from both labs.
    Thanks for your help.

CRJ---I've been using Bay Photo for almost 2 years now and I've LOVED everything I've gotten from them. I had an issue with a UPS driver and Bay bent over backwards in making certain I got the 24x36 gallery wrapped canvas my client ordered! It even required two re-prints---our UPS guys STINKS.

Anyway, I've recently purchased the new THIN WRAPS and my clients are going CRAZY over them... nice alternative to the gallery wrapped for this economy!

So... I am a Bay Photo-for-life-customer! So glad to hear that your experience was great!

I was going to suggest the thin wraps as well, I might order a few myself. They look like a great idea.

I second Bay as being top-notch for customer service. I'm not sure if they have the best canvas prints out there, but I know for certain if there is any problem with my order or I'm unhappy for any reason, they will do everything they can to make it "right".

Also, have you ever seen somebody complain about Bay? Does such a thread even exist? (rhetorical question, but think about it : )

Ok so I went to Bay Photo's website and looked at the thin wraps and would like to maybe give them a try. Wish they were offered in larger than 16x20. I have not gotten to the point where I have had clients order from my website. I was excited that I finally set up my pricing using Bay Photo and was hoping to begin this process soon. I see though that the thin wraps are not offered through SmugMug/Bay Photos. Also, going through Bay Photo and using Roes, I have a lot more options. They also run specials/special pricing. So, I feel like I'm making this more complicated for myself than need be. I need to get over this hump right now so I can get my new business going. What are others doing? Offering the basic prints through your SmugMug account for clients to pick and order and custom orders maybe handling for them and going through Bay Photo's website/Roes system? Don't want to take away from SmugMug here, but need a system in place that will be easy for me and my clients. Thanks for all your help!

I'm not running a business proper, but I chose which style of print (canvas, board, giclee, etc) and which size I think best matches my photograph. I print it, then show it to my potential customers and they drool all over it before buying one. Bay has a billion different printing options which is awesome, but I think too many choices will confuse customers so I made a few choices for them (and it's never been a problem for me). Your results may vary.

I have downloaded Bay Roes Complete Professional(full color correction). I do have a calibrated monitor and make color corrections within Photoshop & Lightroom. I believe prices with full color correction are higher. Would it be recommended to use their Roes Professional or the Economy(No color correction)? I am planning on ordering a Thin Wrap real soon. Already added to Roes and working on some more prints. I see though that I missed out on their special for 30% off Thin Wraps through 6/30. They do have 20% off Canvas Wraps through 7/4. Thanks!

If you are confident in your color correction and calibrated monitor, then I see no need for using their color correction as well. I have used their economy service (no correction) and I'm very pleased with it.

SmugMug did extensive testing of some of the better print houses nation-wide and Bay had top marks in color consistency. You don't have anything to worry about in that regard.

Also, you can take advantage of the 50% off your first order coupon, if you are a new customer.

When are those THIN WRAPS going to be available via SmugMug?
