Wrestling - First Real Attempt

All,

I have learned from Tim's great wrestling shots and I have given it a try myself. I am not getting near the results that Tim is getting but I thought I would post a few rookie shots.

Any advice on what I can do differently to improve is GREATLY appreciated. I did have an on camera SB-800 flash bouncing off the ceiling. I don't have my remote triggers yet for my White Lightning flash.

Not all bad, Mark. I see a shutter speed of 1/400 which means you were using Fast Sync, which reduces the power of your flash. I use 1/250 which is max sync speed. If that'll get you 2+ stops over ambient, it'll stop the movement. Also, set your flash to Rear curtain sync and whatever shadowing or ghosting you get will be behind the subject, which looks a bit better whn it happens...

    Tim,

Do you always have your SB-800 set to Rear curtain sync? Is that a default seting that I should always try to keep?

You know Mark, I can't say that. I tend to leave it on rear curtain if on camera, but I shoot a lot with the SBs off camera and triggered with pocketwizards. Then it doesn't matter, because that is a camera function....
