It can only get better skip as that was about a hour before that huge storm on my $30 tripod with a lens that really should have something more solid under it.

I like both versions :D . There's something about the feel of the one surrounded by black space that is appealing to me, while the moon still has so much detail.

Real nice. I just spent the last 2 hours trying to get one like that with my
Sigma 80-400os and D Reb 300. I didn't even come close. Of couse I was trying to do it hand held. :D
    (I hate using tripods)

Just one thing, for your Focal Length, with the 1.6 factor it would be 640mm,
and 400mm in 35mm film or FF sensor.

Anyway, I got a feeling you just cost me a grand. I'm just not sure if it will
go for the lens or the camera.ne_nau.gif

    1/350s f/8.0 at 400.0mm iso200

BTW, it is a great pic.

P.S. mine is a 100% crop, is yours? I'm trying is see if the 8 meg gets the pic
that much larger. If it is, it's like adding even more zoom.

A 100% crop is just a regular cropped image that has not been resized either up or down.

Thanks ian...mate i can't believe how easy it was...i had really no idea of my settings just put it on Av & used the timer.

I have always wanted to shoot this type of stuff so now i have to wait for a full moon & bring some other things in with it.

My Sea Eagle is always about but this late in the year.. i have lost the sun by the time i get home so i will try for him this week-end. He always eats his fish on one particular post about 200 yards from my balcony but i will sneak up on him. I really want an underneath flight shot in the late afternoon sun.

umph.gif ok...i always thought (wondered) how they get the figure 100% headscratch.gif

Well yes its a 100% crop then....hmm the penny has just dropped. Its a cut from the original shot. clap.gif Man theres no stoppin' me !

Thanks for looking mate...i know just how rare it is to get you out of the lurkers cupboard thumb.gif Are you considering the lens ? Its a must for its speed of focus & price.

Here it is David...its just a Canon L prime (one focal length) 400mm f/5.6. It focuses very fast & for a bit over a grand $USD its a must.

    Cheers ..Gus

PS. Im sorry if i sound patronising here but a 300/350/20D using a lens is always multiplied by 1.6. So in reality its a 640mm. How cheap is that for 'bang for buck' ?

    my god that is huge!

I think ill learn the camera before I spank some dough down on a lens that big!

    NICE SHOTS!

Any idea what would be in the 200-300 range with Great zoom and fast?

Im going to vegas soon and I hope I can catch the strip at night and start my collection there.

Im loaded with CF cards now :)
    1gb ultra II
    512
    my old 256

So i hope ill be good on space.

Actually its only about 11 inches long & about 3 inches in Dia.

Mate i can only give you my opinion so it is clouded but im not into zooms as primes are sharper but primes certainly dont have the versatility of a good zoom. In the zoom range with a low budget i would buy the 70-200 f/4.

Theres lots of lenses & far more opinions ...this is just mine.

The night shots may make you move towards the 70-200 f/2.8 but its all a money thing as you know (they are dearer). I like slow night shots so being an f/4 wouldnt worry me that much.

If you want wide then the 10-22 is the lens to have IMO.

    Cheers ..Gus

    Good Luck

Now that i know what that means Dave...yep its 100% & a tad of sharpen thrown in for good measure.

I saw some shots that a friend of greapers took of some owls & that sold me on the lens....hey greaps if your reading this then i cant find the link to those owl shots. Do you know where they are ? Canon could use them to sell this lens.

Hey Gus, Canon could use your pic to sell the lens. I think there's one in my
future, but I'll have to sell a couple first.

    Thanks for the info.

'Gus, I noticed a bright object next to the moon last night...Spica. Spica is
the brightest star in the constellation of Virgo.

Oh, your full moon will be on May 24th.

How'd I find all this out? Stardate, a radio program.
