I am going out to get a venue to shoot V-Day pics in, not print on site...simple set up (just like I did in film days)......backdrop [nice red rose(s)] and not more than 2 lights....may just go with 2 sunpak 622 on quantum batteries.

My question what would the majority of you do..................
1- shoot in raw and do "some minor" processing.

2- shoot jpg and call it good.

This is one of the forms of saying to this town that I am back in business...after a hiatus of almost 15 yrs of shooting weddings and portraits.

    :D Hi Art
I have an annual Valentine's Day event and I actually have 2 studio set-up's. The venue owner likes to give away a "free" 5x7 to each of the brides (so he sets up a cake cutting scene). That ends up being my initial cost. I don't have to pay any commissions, etc. My other set-up (they're side by side) is a more formal background to do full length shots of the B&G. I've learned thru the years that anything more than one mono light and a background would be a waste of time (and should be done in the studio). Typically the only orders I get are at the event itself and very few re-orders. You might think that it's do to the quality of my work but I get very few complaints and many praises for the quality of the images. And am usually asked to come back the next year. My prices are very reasonable being that I'm in a military area but I do get a guarantee(returned if I exceed the minimum). Other than Valentines I do about 30 events a year.
    Hope this helps, bsvirginianthumb.gif

Yes it is actually a lot of help......and I have McConnell Air Base just on the other side of town.....actually just down the street from one club I am going to be contacting about doing this on V-Day.

    At your event do you..............

    1- shoot raw?

2- do minor or major processing?

3- shoot jpg and call it good??

How many people are you expecting to shoot, and what kind of turn around do they expect?
For larger events (300 or more), I shoot jpeg and call it done.

thumb.gif I'm in agreement with Steve. I just shoot jpegs. No need for anything else unless you are shooting a classic portrait. Just a tip concerning McConnell, There are many money making events at the AFB. I have Langley AFB here. Each year they probably hold an NCO validation event. This is where NCO's are formally inducted. Most will welcome a formal portrait. Offer inexpensive packages with about a 2-3 week turn around. The base will also have divisional holiday parties and of course formal affairs. There should also be a number of "change of command' ceremonies and retirement events. Good luck. Actually you can see some samples on my site of various military events that I have done. All jpegs, all shot with one light and all reasonably priced (printed by Mpix). Good luck, www.bsvirginian.smugmug.com

    .

I always shoot raw & Jpg. You can always file the RAW on a dvd so it takes up no hard drive space and give options.

That is my norm for most shooting just in case I want to magnify an image on my LCD...as my cam won't magnify a raw file.

Bob ...... I would love to have 300 paying couples walk in front of my camera on that nite......but the first time I did New Years I only had about 50 or so and was only charging $10/print (8x10).........this year I am going to have a small package of ~7-8prints total....no choosing just one package.

Thanks everyone tht responded and thanx just for reading even if you did not respond:D
