Show client concept snapshots?

Ok, so here's the deal. I'm going to be doing a huge project, my first big paid thing and it just sorta fell into my lap...and was also my idea at the same time.

Anyway. The project will consist of 9-20 (unknown number right now) large prints (16x16 or larger, possibly 16x36). Mostly abstract/closeup/macro "technology" shots.

The first step will be to get a concept down, the client works best with physical images that he can say "yeah, like this. not this one. like this but a little more [something]", etc.

My idea is to take some snapshots (with the G9) for general ideas and meet with the client to finalize the concept. Then actually shoot the real shots with correct lens for individual shots, lighting, etc.

Do you recommend for/against the snapshot idea? I'm not sure how else to get the client to bring the ideas he has into a more concrete form. I also want to get this done this weekend to meet with him on Monday about it.

Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks for reading.

Advertising and the film industry both use concepts (usually concept boards - comic strip style) to sell the clients....so why not ...... I see nothing wrong...

Thanks Art, I figure it will be fine, but wanted to get some opinions as so many people say "never let anyone see your non-finished non-perfect shots"

I agree with Art. Remember anything that makes it easier for the client to do business with you versus the other guy is good.

Besides this is only a concept shot, an aid, not anything like a final print.

Concept shots are pretty normal in product photography. Keep the images small, but detailed. Offer a few different lighting options and angles for the client to choose the direction that they want.
More often than not the client has an idea in their head, you need to get it out so that you can do your job.

    Congrats on the job!

As someone who is in marketing the day job (Photography is a hobby) I can tell you that without at least something for me to see I have a hard time knowing if the vendor we are going with has an understanding of the concept I am looking for. I don't expect finals, just FPO and conceptual stuff. Sometimes it is as simple as a shot that they took right that morning with a P&S I think it is a fair way to go.
