A raptor kind of day in Viera

Hi Y'all,

It wasn't too bad for raptors at the Viera Wetlands yesterday.

The red shouldered hawk sat for a bit

the caracara made a call

the eagle was on his stick

Nancy (Flygirl) and I rushed past the eagle because we had a more interesting subject in sight.

A peregrine falcon was visiting that day

as an added treat the Peregrine got into a food fight with a Northern Harrier. They were contesting ownership of a dead coot.

At lunch Nancy and I had talked about how Viera hasn't been as good as it was last year.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Wonderful images Harry. Looks like it was a "pinch me" kind of day ... How often do you bypass a perched / photogenic eagle for something more interesting? rolleyes1.gif

Really enjoyed the food fight. clap.gif

Wow, all of these in one day? Very nice. I don't know if we have that large of a population of raptors around here. I can find red-tails often, but everything else is fairly rare to see.

Thanks Bob and I have been passing that eagle on a stick rather regularly. I do have enough eagle on a stick captures in my collection.

Glad you liked them Joel. I was very excited about the peregrine. That was only the third one I've seen in five years down here.

Raptor availability depends on your location. We are very fortunate in my neck of the woods to have a good variety hanging around and passing through.
