Problem with Owner Save!

I have understood that Owner Save downloads the original file back to me. I downloaded a number of .jpg files and this doesn't seem to be the case...

Example: I uploaded a 3.97MB .jpg file. The gallery photo info shows 3.97MB. I downloaded the file using Owner Save and the file size received is only 1.003MB???? Another .jpg file was 3.10MB but the downloaded file was only 421KB??? Much smaller files are typical of all files downloaded. I also get the same small files sizes when downloading using AlbumFetcher.

Please explain as I am very concerned. Thanks. :scratch

    Hi Al,

Could you give us a link to your examples so that we can take a look?

Check that the files are within our limits and specifications for supported files (sRGB color space, 48 megapixels or smaller).

If you did upload the photos in a different color space, we converted them to sRGB. They might have shrunken during the conversion due to very or no compression used on the original files that you uploaded.

Hi, Sebastion. One of galleries in question is Room with View. All my files are .jpg, sRGB, and less than 4MB so that isn't the problem. But I believe I may have found the problem...which I didn't see addressed in the HELP pages. Apparently, I must have the gallery Right Click Protection set to "NO" and Largest Size set to "ORIGINAL" in order to Owner Save the Original file. Is this correct as it seems to work okay that way.

I always thought that Owner Save always downloads the Original file which it apparently doesn't. This could be misleading to others trying to download original files.

Please confirm...Does Owner Save require Right Click Protection "OFF" and Largest Size set to "ORIGINAL" as I am experiencing?

I don't know about right-click protection, but it does not require originals to be enabled and I have verified that on my own galleries. That is the whole point of having owner save so you don't have to enable originals in order for the owner to get access to the original.

Thanks, John. I checked again this AM and you are correct of course. With gallery Right Click Protection "ON" and File Size "X3", I did download original file sizes. Not sure what happened a couple of days ago, but that just wouldn't work...was getting smaller sizes??? Anyway, seems to be working okay for me today. thumb.gif

I wonder...I was logged in as Owner on two computers at the same time, doing different tasks. Could that have been the problem?

    Have a good day!

You can be logged in as many places as you want. Smugmug probably doesn't even actually know how many places you are logged in as it's just a local browser cookie that identifies you.
