Comments: "gallery" versus "photo"

I know this is an issue that's been raised before...but...
If someone takes the time to post a comment ("photo" or "gallery") surely they would prefer that it be coded properly. But the current comment layout doesn't force a poster to make a decision in order to select the proper type of posting. In their haste to say something (usually) nice, some (I suspect many) comment posters on SmugMug just overlook the fact that there are two types of comments. And once the type is changed in the current drop-down structure, whether intentionally or by accident, the "last comment standing" will be the new default type.
I'm sure the developers must scratch their heads :scratch every time this comes up...."It's so obvious, isn't it?" The answer is, of course, "Yes" for a lot of folks. Unfortunately, it's not obvious to everyone.
I just analyzed/reviewed 72 "Photo" comments on my site...and found that 37 of them (~50%) should clearly have been "Gallery" comments. (I did not similarly analyze the gallery comments to see if the reverse was true...mainly because I have many more gallery comments than photo comments).
If a drop-down box is the right way to go, then I think "Choose Type" should be the "default" in the same way "Select a State" is the default drop-down setting on most sites where an address needs to be filled in. It forces one to actually think for moment, then make a selection because "Select a State" is not a valid option. The "cost" is an "extra" mouse click, and the benefit would be nearly 100% correctly coded comments. Two radio buttons or tick boxes(where neither is selected to begin with) makes even more sense to me.
