Eagles w/Davev in Iowa/Illinois
This past weekend Davev and I made our annual trip to Iowa/Illinois to photograph the eagles along the Mississippi River. Here's a couple of shots from my 1st flash card.

Was this in the Clinton, Ia...Fulton, Il. area?
I've been meaning to do this for some time now. Something about the freezing cold that has prevented me!:D

I've been wanting to go find the eagles. I was tempted to try a short road trip last month, I called the Starved Rock State Park office and was told the eagles had been and left as the weather warmed.
Well. it's cold enough here now! Where did you go? Looks like you can (?) get plenty close!!
Awesome shots!...and that was the ..first? card...I hope we see more.
So I have to say, great shots.:D
On a side note, I think this is the same eagle, but with a different fish.
Look at the small breaks in the feathers near the tips. I think they match.

Thanks Ric and everyone else for your comments. These shots were taken in the Burlington, Iowa/L&D18 region.

You're too kind April. Too bad you won't take photos in below zero temps. You could fly up here and we could really add to your eagle portfolio.:D

Is there a preferred time of day? The suns rather low now so you 'could' shoot at noon and have decent light. Are the eagles more active at dawn and dusk or does it really matter?
Glad to hear the eagles are back again.

I have found that they are best photographed in the morning. The lighting you see in these shots were all morning photos taken on the Illinois side shooting toward Iowa.
They tend to feed more in the morning but in Burlington, there are so many that it doesn't seem to matter.

Thanks pathfinder!! I might be down there again around that time too. It would be nice to hook up before the Maine shootout. Let me know if you are going for sure and I can show you a few locations Davev and I have found over the last 3 years.

I'd really like to check out the eagles, and record some gigage. It'd be more fun with fellow dgriners. If you are in the area on/near a weekend please drop me a note.
