I have never entered into any kinda contest and I don't even know if I should now. I am just trying to learn all I can about photography and haven't mastered it yet, but I thought I'd try this out.
this is a picture of my 2 girls when they wake up. Please let me know your thoughts on how I can improve this. thanks.

I would crop the bottom of the photo almost to their fingertips. There's nothing much of interest in that table, anyway. This will make their hair, eyes, and faces stand out much more.

Personally, I would brighten the background a bit (but not the faces) so that the hair stands out a more. There is a muddy quality to the red background (that may be my monitor, so take my comment with a grain of salt) that would be eliminated with brightening.
I agree with Linda about cropping the bottom, but maybe not all the way to the fingers. My solution (if it were my picture - which it isn't!) would be to darken the table top so that it is not such a bright strip through the photograph. That (plus lightening the bg) would help the viewer's eyes go to and stay with your cute daughters and their adorable bed hair.
Very nice take on the theme!
Best of luck to you.

thank you ladies for your feedback. I took another picture of the girls and took your advice....please let me know what you think of the new picture:
I think it is much better, the hair now stands out much more, and the table at the bottom does not distract as the 1st pic did.
Looking good there.
