Hi, My son and I are planning on taking a trip to Iowa next wknd to try for some nice Eagle shots. We are probably going to Burlington. My question is will I have enough reach to get a nice shot using a 50d/100-400L or do they fly pretty close to you? Thanks and love all the Wildlife and Eagle shots on here. Chris Newberry

    Cal,

This is my 3rd year photographing eagles in Iowa and I'd say 1/2 of my shots were taken with the 5D and the 100-400L. You'll be able to get some nice shots with the lens locked in at 400mm.

Feel free to shoot me a PM or an e-mail and I can go over any questions about the area (Burlington) you might have.

Also ... while you are there if you feel like traveling a bit ..take the road on the iowa side of the Mississippi. down to other lock & dams....I've hit #15 in Daventport, #14 in LeClaire, & #13 between Fulton & Thomson.. ( lock 13 is on the Illinois side though) you can drive to Clinton & cross the bridge to Fulton Il. usually you can find some flying close at all 3. L&D 13 also has a nest. it's out there aways over some back water just before the dam on the left.

Good luck...I envy you ...I have yet to get back there (home) to shoot this year.
**If I keep shooting, I'm bound to hit something**
