Delete a category

Hello all, I need to clean house for this new year of students. I want to delete categories and put fresh ones, know how to delete galleries, but can not find the 'how to' on categories. Thanks kindly in advance!

If the category you want to delete is a custom category, it can be deleted, but if it is a standard smugmug category then you can't delete it.

I don't believe that deleting a category will delete the galleries in it (although I could be wrong about that...).

You create, change or remove custom categories and subcategories from your control panel. See http://www.smugmug.com/help/upload-photo.

Have you tried this? I have been to that page many times. I got to the category that has many sub galleries in it. Am I right that you have to delete each and every gallery one at a time, this is why I hope to delete the category and everything in it. I have about 10000 photos here, that are from last years school, time for the new class!

I have deleted empty categories. I have not tried to delete categories that contain galleries. And I suspect that you do need to delete the galleries first.

You might try deleting the galleries with SmugBrowser - http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=47484&highlight=smugbrowser.

¨Thanks so very much for taking the time to help me I will give this a go and check back in to let you know how it went. I do suspect you are right, (the pain) as there are so so many galleries to delete.

Even if you need to touch each gallery individually, using SmugBrowser will be much faster than deleting them individually (directly) in smug.

Deleting a category will not delete the galleries under it. It would rather assign all those albums to a default category (I think "Other" category). You will have to delete the galleries one by one or use an external program like smugbrowser
