[FONT=Verdana, sans-serif]I am considering testing out a Lens-Baby. Which one would you recommend?
I am totally new to Lens-Baby. Never even handled one. Thanks for the advice. Also are there any promotions for Smugmug members?

What effect are you looking for?

How much image quality do you desire?

    Do you have a budget?

I would recommend the v3 - i know they renamed it and not sure what it is called. I have v2 and though I like using it, is very difficult to push+pull+tilt at the same time with one hand while also holding the camera steady to compose and then trip the shutter.

the v3 lensbaby you can get it dialed in the way you want and then lock it, all with one hand - that leaves you free to actually compose the image. Of course for that convenience you pay a large premium vs the v2. I don't see the v3 used very often either.

    Hi,
Although I'm new to DGrin, I've been using a Lensbaby for quite a few years. Over that time I've used the Original (now Muse) and the 3G (now Control Freak) but currently using the Composer which I find much easier and would imagine that this would be the one for a newcomer. best thing is to look at their website (lensbaby.com) which has a good section on how to use the various lens.

    Good luck.thumb.gifthumb

if you aren't sure, I know borrowlenses.com has a few for rent :) if you are a SM member (didn't check your profile, sorry), you can use ClubSmug for a discount.

edit: sorry, your post is in white which on this layout doesn't show up (sand). I only saw your title. and yes, there's a free macro/micro/wideangle kit from lensbaby directly. Again, see clubsmug comment above :)

For most situations I think you're better off just doing it in Photoshop... Lens blur with a gradient mask.

Unless you need to shoot 100 jpgs or video and give it to someone a few minutes later...
