I sure hope I got this high key business right. How much detail needs to be left in? I made 4 attempts -- your C&C will be much appreciated. Thanks!

#1 or #4. I can't speak to the technique of it, but personally I really like 1 - it's so PRETTY!

They all are nice in their own way. I think I like one and two...but I agree that number one is the best of them. Interesting way to interpret the theme.

Def No.1 for me. Have you played around with different crops for it? ie square or 8x10 type crops to lessen the empty white space at the left?

With Tim's suggestion in mind, I attempted two crops. Thoughts? I kind of like both of them.

I still need to come up with a caption. I was thinking of something like "Around the Bend". Too corny?

I really like them but I think I would like the first one with the B&W style from #2. That would be my advice..... Great shots

I like #1 too, but I'm just wondering if it's not a little too much faded... headscratch.gif

I really like the 8x10 crop, the fence on the left just fades in from white and leads your eye nicely into the frame.

Maybe caption it "Into the mist" or "Into the Wonderland" ??

I'd like to see it in the B&W convertion as mentioned by unclemu.

This is nice, but I have to say I prefer the original 8x10, it just seems to be "warmer" in feel.

I like your take on the theme, Linda. And I'm super impressed you found a way to make dead winter trees look so beautiful! thumb.gif

Yes indeed. That's a really good point. Normally dead, leafless trees just ruin a good landscape. But not here! thumb.gifthumb.gif

Linda I love this crop, picture, and tone best of them all. I love winter landscapes. My husband and went to Ma last year and when traveling through PA he promised to take me back there in the winter to do landscapes.

I love the pictures you put up for the challenges from where you live. I like the simple title "Home". Just a a suggestion.

    Peace, gail

Thank you Tim, Gail, Jeff, and Kerry. iloveyou.gif

Gail, any time you want to come up this way, give me a holler! We'll go out and do a shoot.

I tried to make a shot similar to #1 some years ago from that same spot but could not get it right. At the time I had no clue what high key was nor did I have a clue on how to process it properly. It wasn't until this Challenge that the light bulb went on. rolleyes1.gif It's nice to have Dgrin your life! thumb.gif

I'm not sure I completely agree with that, assuming they're a principle subject and not some distracting side element. They have a lot of character, and depending on the treatment, can make the photo look ominous/foreboding, or calm and peaceful.

Anyway, I prefer the first shot, it's great! High-key, to me, is more difficult than low key as far as landscapes go.
