Ever wanted to add a signature to te corner of your photograph. Or maybe a watermark or copyright notice?
I posted an illustrated Photoshop tip that demonstrates how to define a Phtoshop Brush Preset and then use it to quickly apply a signature.

Comments are certainly welcome.

I added a second tip on the same topic. It demonstrates how to use a custom shape and give the signature an embossed look.

It inspired me to print my identity plate in Lightroom2 full size on an 8 x 11 in piece of matte paper, and then scan that image into Photoshop as a tiff file. Now I have an nice file for my custom brush to be built with.

For those of us who are really new to this, can you explain this? If I new what an "identity plate" was, that would explain alot... I think I know how to do the rest, or at least can figure it out... Thanks. I have just ordered my Lightroom2/CS4 combo...
Lightroom2 allows you to personalize the appearance at the top left corner of its main panel - you can put in text or graphic information in the upper left corner. This is called the identity panel, and this can be printed onto any prints that you print via Lightroom as well. You can alter the size, opacity and color for each image as needed.
So I loaded my identity plate onto a plain white image and printed it large in landscape mode across an 8 x 11 piece of matte paper with dark black ink. I then took this 8x 11 in image and scanned it into Photoshop with my flat bed scanner as a B&W document in tiff format. Once I have my name and date in black ink in a tiff, I can edit it or color it as desired, or can use it to make a custom brush.
Some folks simply sign their name and scan that graphic in, but my identity plate is much more professional looking than my real signature so........
The identity plate is my name and the year 2009 seen here above the Navigator box in LR2

This is a great idea for photos that I print myself but what about photos I place for sale on the internet at places like Smugmug. At Smugmug's checkout, the buyer can simply crop the copyright/signature out of the photo. That's why I stopped doing this. It's a lot of work for something that is easily removed.

Is there a way to enter the copyright symbol..or a crtl # code?
If you use the technique for a custom shape, you will find that the Copyright symbol is already one of the available shapes.

Thanks for the repy and information.
I use an action for my signature.......now being a bit of a non conformist myself....my signature is place in various places on different photos.....it may be seen crawling up a tree trunk or a cross a lake wave or inside the eye of a photo of a bison skull.......the one thing I do if I have to place it in a standard position (lower right or left corner) is to figure what size (aspect ratio) the photo will be and start with my siggy at approx 1.5 inches up from the bottom and from the side......this places my hand written signature in a plce that it should never be covered with a mat or cropped out at printing...............
hold the ALT key and press 0169 and release........how ever to me it looks very unpro to see copyrightslooking back at me from a photo i am considering purchasing............a simple signature , just a painter would put on his work is perfect......................
If you're using Windows, most fonts will display it when you hold down the Alt key and type 0169 on the right side number pad. Let go of the Alt key and the © Copyright symbol will appear.

Check out this tutorial - it adds the option of auto-resizing your sigs/logos to match regardless of the finished size of your images...can tailor to your specific needs...otherwise you need to resize your sig to each different finished size for to keep consistent....
