Extra Keywords added to photos

I'm having a problem where Smugmug is adding Keywords to my photos. These extra keywords seem to be getting generated from either the path or filename depending on what uploader I use. If I use the new Smugmug uploader in PhotoMechanic 4.6, Smugmug is somehow generating new keywords from the path. If I use the Smugmug Simple uploader, its adding the filename as extra keywords.

Here's an example

cold; Cuyahoga Valley National Park; environment; ice; ice formation; Kendall Ledges; land; national park; North America; Ohio; park; scenery; seasons; snow; snowfall; United States of America; weather; Winter; wintertime; CVPS Photo Walk; documents; settingsronald; skinnerapplication; datacamera; bits; incphoto; mechaniccacheftpftpsession; 66647218; ledges

The extra keywords that were added are in Bold Italic above and are generated from the path. This was using PM's uploader

Using Smugmug's uploader I get this:

cold; Cuyahoga Valley National Park; environment; ice; ice formation; Kendall Ledges; land; national park; North America; Ohio; park; scenery; seasons; snow; snowfall; United States of America; weather; Winter; wintertime; CVPS Photo Walk; kendall; ledges; 2009058

Again the extra keywords are in Bold Italic

Why are these extra keywords being generated and how can I prevent this from happening?

Those keywords are part of your filename, which we'll make into keywords. Better to leave filenames at they are (DSC_12345.jpg etc) and put keywords in as real metadata in your file.

I don't have PhotoMechanic, so maybe they've got a bug, I dunno... we'll have to check into that.

Thanks Andy, I change the filename to what you suggested and the exta keywords were not added.

I have a feature request though, it would be great if Smugmug had a custom setting that would let you choose if you wanted to generate Keywords from your filename or not because a lot of us like to change our filenames to something a little more descriptive than the default camera filename.

    Thanks again,
    Ron

This has been requested for a long time. I really don't get why the SM team seems to not understand this (ie., the usual "use the stock filename" answer).

+100 15524779-Ti.gifagree15524779-Ti.gif. I can't tell whether they care about the issue enough to prioritize it to actually do something. I believe they do understand it as I've written more than enough about it to explain it. Most of the fix involves removing code.
