Hi,

I am pretty much a newbie, especially when it came to low/high key thing. Can this be even considered low key?

    Not quite
It's a nice black and white shot, though. For it to be low key would require more darkness and shadows:

"Low Key images are also notable for a great deal of contrast that they display. Most notable is the rim light. A light surrounding the subject illuminating only the contour of the shape. So the contrast is between dark shape and bright contour."

    Here are some examples:

A Photgraph is Art. It is supposed to convey a message to the viewee.
I see you are practicing your strengths in depth with the lenses. I don't however see the message of the photograph.

Question? Why is buddha looking at the rocks? What emotion should I be feeling? This is a good start however if I were in a museum looking at a photograph and I didn't know anything about religion what should this photo be saying to me? Just some questions you should ask your self when trying this type of Table Top photography.

Well I probably wasn't too brilliant about expressing my idea. If you look at this http://photos.rashkovskii.com/gallery/7226859_KAdDr#466265679_Gorp6-A-LB you'll find that the title is "Waiting for the enemy...", which is a sort of allusion to buddhism's concept of waiting until enemy's body will float by river.

I sort of tried to make an impression of this monk sitting near the river and waiting for that, while not being way too concerned about the whole business.

Does that make any sense? :)

However I am going to try out more tonight to improve the message.

btw, here is an updated version: http://photos.rashkovskii.com/gallery/7226859_KAdDr#466549528_5kJqd-A-LB. I actually like it more than first version.

However I don't think it is low key anyway :)
