Need help 'recording' an Action (in Photoshop) for Batch data insert to an EXIF field

Hello, i want to display the file name next to the thumbnail that opens after clicking on a Google Map's pin. That will enable a viewer to identify an image and then easily find it in the gallery. The SmugMug's Google Map doesn't do it, but can display the image caption if available. A simple solution would be to put the file name into the description field of the IPTC. I'm talking about galleries of hundreds of images, so the only way for me to accomplish it would be a Batch with an Action i recorded. However, when i test the batch action, it puts the same file name (the one i used in the recording of the action) in the descriptions field of the test files.
Any help, or suggestions?... :lust

Dunno if this is much help, but I remember with Photoshop CS2 that when you recorded an action like save, with a filename field, if you hit Enter on the keyboard rather than clicking OK, the action would record that particular filename. So if you ran the action again, it would save over the first. If that applies to your action recording, then it might help...

The other thing I could suggest (without trying it) would be to have a look via Bridge - it's set up a lot better to manage EXIF tagging and batching...

Automating Copy file name into Description field of metadata
Thanks Jason, but i don't really understand your suggestion. I spoke twice to Adobe, and copying a file name and pasting it elsewhere, (in the metadata Description field for example) cannot be recorded as an Action and become automated.

    Any suggestions, other programs maybe?....
