50mm Macro

Sigma 50mm f/2.8 Macro lens

Does anyone have an opinion about this lens as I am thinking about buying one.

    I have one for a Canon mount and find it a nice macro for the dollar. I wanted a more versatile focal length and 50mm is better for my occasional close focusing/macro needs. The price is great at $250 or so. Optically, it's excellent.

    The AF leaves a bit to be desired, slow and noisy and the front element extends as you focus. Most third party macros are like this so it's really not that big of a deal for me. Many dedicated macro shooters also use MF a lot.

    You'll have to decide if it's features and price fits your needs. Like most if not all macro lenses, optically it's excellent with edge to edge sharpness through most of the aperture range.
