Recently participated in the Mare Island night photography workshop.

Mare Island is in the city of Vallejo which borders San Pablo Bay and
the Carquinez Straits about 25 miles northeast from San Francisco.

Finally met fellow dgrinner aktse, she treated everyone to
brownies.

After seeing aktse's photos in this thread, I'm a a little reluctant to post my
shots, but here it goes.

There was a light mist in the air that caught the flood lights
from the neighboring building.

Concrete bunkers front lit from street lights, with fill light from a gel'd
spotlight.

Colorful, but overbaked, I think. Window of the power plant.

Another over cooked light job.

I like your shots of the small objects. With so many large structures it was easy to overlook the little ones. Your shot of the interior of Building 680 is way cool! I walked past that building without looking inside.

    Tony,
Thanks for checking out my shots. I was at Mare Is. back in December,
when I shot more of the historic core. This time I wanted to shoot
some subjects that I earlier skipped.

    April,
I'm glad that my earlier thread about MINSy encouraged you to sign up.
I know I'm inspired by your work, we all feed on the work of each other.

    Bryan,
Thanks for looking. I see you've commented on Tony's and April's posts
as well. It's a great location.

If you're shooting on your own, like I did in December, I would recommend
that you get there earlier in the day to scout locations. Security
guards drive around and they'll probably chat with you, at least
they did with me. They didn't stop me from shooting, but requested
that I not enter any buildings or wander into unauthorized places.
There's lots to shoot without breaking rules.

Because of you, I know that I'm stretching myself with long exposure nights shots and the use of gels and color flashlight. Thank you!

Hi Alvin, fantastic take on the event! This looks like tons of fun and I really hope to explore this area both night and day. I love the lighting you guys did, and the fact that you also captured the group shot. thumb.gif
