Why is Smugmug so slow lately?

I don't think it's my connection because other non-smugmug sites that I frequent seem to be just as fast as ever.

I've been working on another Smugmug site for a friend and her site and my own are both very slow. Even tiny little images for CSS menus are being served up like cold molasses. What's really bizarre is that those same tiny images load very fast when a non-smugmug HTML page requests them.

Mick, how about a line quality test so we can see what's up? SmugMug is blazing for everyone - just not you - sooooo let's find out why.

Would you mind running a line quality test for us? You go here:
    http://www.dslreports.com/linequality
Sign up and run the test. Registration there is free. After you run the test, copy the link to the results for us. That will let us know if there is an issue with the line preventing photos from arriving to our servers. Post the link to the results when you get them.

Wow Mick, that looks great.... hm. OK are you using custom domain or nickname.smugmug links? Do you have any security software in place, adblockers, cookie controllers, any other addons? Have the ability to try from another network, or other computer in a different location?

My friend told me that the navbar images load very fast on her system. She said there's no noticeable delay at all. I suppose that means it must be something on my end. However, that doesn't explain why the same images were loading fast on my system when they were loaded by a non-smugmug page.

Here's a link to my friend's site (http://justineolson.smugmug.com/). On my system the images for the menubar load slowly and cause a 1-2 second delay every time a menu item state changes.

Compare the menu on her site to this test page that I created (http://www.mediafire.com/file/mwznmyjuzjk/test-banner-and-menubar.html). The CSS and HTML code for the menu on this page is identical to the one on my friend's smugmug site. They both load images from her site.

On my system, the menu on her site redraws very slowly. There's a very noticeable (and very annoying) delay every time a menu item changes state. On the other hand, the menu on the test page redraws very quickly, without any delay. They both load the images from the same location, so why the delay when the page is part of a Smugmug site?

Mick, the site loads near-instantly for me. I'll kick this around but I'm out of ideas :(

It must be something on my end. My friend is happy with her site so I'm not going to worry about it.

    Thanks Andy!

Just chipping in to say that it HAS had its moments in the last week that I've been testing it out. Sometimes, it will take up to 3 minutes for my homepage flash show to load, which is ridiculous. For the most part, it's been fast, however.

We can help diagnose, if you wish - just say the word. This almost always comes down to a temporary issue in the connection between you and us.

Oh, I'm not complaining...just pointing out that the OP wasn't alone. I have a sneaking suspicion that it's GoDaddy related rather than SM.
