also known locally as "El Capitan", this volcanic plug rises up 1500 feet out of sagebrush desert a few miles northeast of Kayenta, Arizona, on the way to Monument Valley. total elevation at the summit is just over 7,000 feet... 40D, Tammy 17-35 @ 21mm, 1/100 @ f/11...

    Ron hit the nail on the head. The clouds just make the peak look more glorious. Fantastic capture of a powerful place. I think that the raw, geological majesty of the southwest is very difficult to capture and show off in photography!
