Hi there,

This is my first post. I've been looking at all the competitions that go around here for months, but just now have decided to register as I have a question that's been bugging me for a while but I can't find any solid info on the net so I hope someone here might be able to answer it for me.

I've heard that digital cameras are good for fewer actuations than normal 35mm cameras. I have a d70 and I take thousands of shots a month. The camera is about a year old .. how many actuations is a camera such as this good for before repair is necessary? Is it something to even be worried about? I also have a Nikon FG that's about 30 years old and has never needed to be repaired...

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Nathan.

Yes. I just killed my third shutter 4 days ago. But an average of about 95,000 photos before the shutter dies is more than some people might guess the D70 would be good for.

The Nikon D2 series and Canon 1D series are supposed to last longer than their film counterparts. Time will tell. My wife has the D70 and it sounds like the N70 which she owned too. Definitely not the same shutter as the D1 or D2 series cameras. You get what you pay for.
