Chiaroscuro

I was checking out some stuff on painting and light, and was led by this painting to try something like a chiaroscuro effect with photography.

I didn't have the period costumes, so I picked a bit of a different scene- something more sinister.

What fun. These are really neat.

I think I like the warmer tones better than the magenta cast of the last one.

    #2 is my favorite.

I must admit, I intended to do this with a studio light, but when I plugged my US bulbs into a German socket they kind of exploded. So my studio lighting setup as of now consists of three candles. I think this particular effect works better that way regardless.
