I found this shot from one of my previous weddings and would like some feedback on it.

What could make this picture better? I'd like some more ideas for shooting the shoes while the bride is getting ready.

C&C welcome...

    shoes?
There just seems to be too much in this photo and it's all about the same color. It does not show a clear center of interest. Gold pillow in the back pulls you right out of the picture. A much tighter crop would help.

Shallow DOF, up close, one shoe flat, one angled tipped, possibly put the bouquet behind or even sticking out of the angled shoe. It's a detail shot and you want to focus on the details....get low, get tight, get elegant.

I agree, I think there is too much going on in your shot, keep it simple, yet show the details.

I loooove shoe shots. Haha, I think some of my couples think I'm completely nuts ... :

    1: Probably my favorite:

6: I guess this can count as a shoe shot aswell, right?

ewwwwww.....ANGIE! Nice! Love your style! thumb.gif

Sorry, back on topic. I actually like that shot but would (or would have)removed almost everything that wasn't "foot" related....out of the frame. :D

The muted material colors with just a peak of the dress that's on the left woud have made this a really good shot. The flowers and the knife set, IMO, take away from this.

I don't do weddings, but I'd suggest getting everything off of the 'grid'... it seems like everything is either parallel or perpendicular to each other. So, thing 1 - get some interesting angles

Thing 2 - maybe try getting down a little bit lower. i think by being up high you lose the interest in the shape of the shoe and get distracted by the insole and whatever is written on it.

Thing 3 - since there are so many similar colors in there, it might've made a nice BW shot.

For the record - I do agree that there is too much in the shot and some things are a little distracting.

Good luck with future shoe-shots! thumb.gif

I like playing w/ the surroundings... and these shoes were sitting next to a neat mirror, so I just moved them slightly for optimal angling :)

Meanwhile this one took some very careful holding so as not to get my hand in the photo:

These are just a few from my own weddings...I've shot a lot of fun shoe shots in my subcontract jobs, but I don't really feel like digging the archives for them. With shoes...windowlight is your friend. If the bride has "big" feet try to just highlight the toe or a detail of the shoe. If she is wearing flipflops or slippers because of the groom's height get inventive...but don't go nuts.

I guess this one counts too...this was the bride's idea to tie the shoes, flowers, and tie....it was up to me to make a pose that it worked for.
