Glad you like the pic. You know, being sure about everything I do in post is a luxury I don't always experience!! Like you I am not convinced about the dry brush effect. However, I wanted the pic not to have too slick a finish, but something more "country craft". There is also a canvas texture effect which is not very noticeable here. Altogether, I feel this is quite appealing.
Yes, the 24-70 is a very nice lens, it especially produces beautiful color. It has always been a bit controversial, though, during it's long life for not always being ultra sharp, that is AF inaccuracy. My copy isn't too bad, I think. With the AF adjustments now available on some new bodies any suspected focus problems can be quickly investigated and possibly solved diy.
